To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the start of the New Deal, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will mount a major special exhibition that explores the dramatic and nation-changing "First 100 Days" of FDR's Presidency in the William J. vanden Heuvel Gallery.

Teaching Hudson Valley Diversity: Culture, History, and Nature, 1609-2009, July 29 - 31. Join teachers, museum staff, environmental educators, and others to learn more about the Hudson Valley and place-based education. This year's focus is tolerance and diversity including how the Dutch, in particular, shaped the region's culture and history. Threaded throughout will be sessions on how human communities in the Valley benefit from and affect biodiversity.

Details and registration form available at THV's web site. The institute features a range of sessions and approaches. Some workshops apply directly to K-12 classrooms; others will deepen or broaden participants' knowledge of the region and subjects ranging from literature to science. Registration before July 20: $90, including breakfast and lunch. Certificates will be awarded through the Mid-Hudson Teachers Center.

Facilitators and speakers include classroom teachers, scientists, historians, scholars, activists, and other experts from Arm of the Sea Theater, Bard College, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Cornell University, Ellenville Middle School, Fiscal Policy Institute, Half Moon/New Netherland Museum, Historic Huguenot Street, Hudsonia, Krieger ES (Poughkeepsie), New Netherland Project, Philipsburg Manor, Hudson River Estuary Program, Sanfordville ES (Warwick), Teatown Lake Reservation, The Nature Conservancy's Sam's Point Preserve, University of Denver, and Woodstock Day School.

In partnership with the National Constitution Center's annual I Signed the Constitution program, the FDR Presidential Library will celebrate Constitution Day. A copy of the U.S. Constitution will be on display in the Wallace Center for the general public to sign.

Film Festival: For a Better America: The New Deal on Film
Henry A. Wallace Center

A two-day festival of thirteen films from the Roosevelt era including The Plow That Broke The Plains and The River, the films of ground-breaking documentary filmmaker, Pare Lorentz. Film screening sessions will be grouped by theme: Urban Life and Culture, The Projects, and The Land and Environment. Each session will be followed by a moderated discussion. These films are presented by the Pare Lorentz Film Center of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and the National Archives and Record Administration. Screenings run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 28.

Eleanor Roosevelt Birthday Ceremony
Rose Garden and Henry A. Wallace Center

The National Park Service will conduct a Rose Garden Ceremony to commemorate Eleanor Roosevelt's Birthday. Following the ceremony, the FDR Presidential Library will invite visitors to return to the Wallace Center for birthday cake and refreshments.
