Collection Historical Note

Lauchlin Currie (1902-1993) was a Canadian-born economist. A naturalized U.S. citizen, Currie served as an economic advisor to Franklin  Roosevelt during World War II. From 1949 to 1953 he led a World Bank mission to Colombia. Accused of espionage for the Soviet Union, Currie became a Colombian citizen in 1954 after the U.S. refused to renew his passport.
