This collection consists of correspondence, interviews, and other materials documenting the life and career of Louis Fischer from 1938 to 1945. It includes Mr. Fischer's correspondence with Eleanor Roosevelt and Under Secretary of State Sumner Welles.
Collection Historical Note
A writer and foreign correspondent, Louis Fischer (1896-1970) wrote several books, including his autobiography Men and Politics (1941). His wife and children were citizens of the Soviet Union, and he requested the aid of Eleanor Roosevelt and several other government officials in his effort to bring them to the United States.
