Scope and Contents of the Materials

The papers of Robert Marshall include copies of "A Forest Program", a report which Gifford Pinchot asked Marshall to write in 1933. Also included is correspondence written by Robert Marshall to various individuals claiming he was the author of a forestry report Pinchot submitted to President Roosevelt.

Collection Historical Note

Robert Marshall was a career civil servant who joined the U.S. Forest Service in 1924, and rose to become Director of the Division of Recreation and Lands of the U.S. Forest Service.  In 1933 he was Director of Forestry, Office of Indian Affairs.
