Scope and Contents of the Materials

The papers of Richard Rovere are composed of correspondence to and from various acquaintances of Jerome Frank, a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  Rovere addresses Frank's friends, former professors, coworkers, and fellow lawyers and Judges in order to research Frank's life and work for a magazine article he was writing in late 1946 into early 1947.

Collection Historical Note

Rovere graduated from Bard College and later Columbia University. Rovere wrote for Esquire, New Masses, New Yorker, The Nation, Harpers, The American Scholar, and Britain's Spectator.
