Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of personal correspondence, official documents, programs, printed materials, clippings, a scrapbook, and memorabilia documenting Frederick Schneider, Jr.'s service as a military police officer in Hyde Park, New York, during World War II. Also included are a copy of a letter from Eleanor Roosevelt to Mrs. Frederick Schneider; materials related to the dedication of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D.C., in 1997; and an audiotape of Frederick Schneider's reminiscences of the World War II period.

Collection Historical Note

Frederick C. Schneider, Jr., was a member of the 240th Military Police Battalion stationed in Hyde Park, New York, during World War II to guard the Roosevelt estate.
