Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection is comprised of correspondence from Henry A. Wallace to Charles and Juanita Roos about events in his personal life as well as in his career.  Wallace's letters mention visiting President Roosevelt's office and Roosevelt's view on the legislation of interest to Wallace (one folder).

Collection Historical Note

Henry A. Wallace was the Secretary of Agriculture from 1933 until 1940.  He was the Vice president of the United States during Roosevelt's third term.  Wallace became the Secretary of Commerce from 1945 until 1946.  In the 1948 presidential election Wallace was the Progressive Party nominee.

Charles Roos was the Director of Research for the National Recovery Administration from 1933 to 1934.  He was also a professor of economics at Colorado College from 1934 until 1937.
