Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection is composed of papers related to the FDR Centennial Commission, of which Stillman was a member.  The Commission was charged with organizing the 1982 celebrations of FDR's 100th Birthday.  The invitations and programs from various other events may be found within the collection. Also in the Stillman papers are two logbooks which he kept during his naval service.

Collection Historical Note

John Sterling Stillman, born in 1918, became a lawyer, New York State political figure and government official. Stillman, as chairman of the New York State Bridge Authority played a role in the planning, design and construction of New York State Bridges, most notably the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.  Stillman also served as a member of the FDR Centenial Commission.
