Original caption reads: "Results of Fertilizer--This is a test field of a practical operating farm on which TVA produced phosphate has demonstrated its ability to encourage the growth of a protective vegetable cover and hence build up soil fertility. The thick growth was treated with a mixture of phospate and lime; the almost bare area was not treated. These test are carried on by farmers through their own local soil conservation associations under the supervisor their state land grant colleges. The test-demonstration farmers endeavor, over a period of years, to make a practical adjustment of their farming systems to such soil and water holding practices. Their neighbors observe and make use of knowledge thus gained." Tennessee Valley Authority.
