Abstract
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Fahey Papers contain both business and personal correspondence arranged alphabetically either by subject or by surname of correspondent and thereunder chronologically. Only a small portion of the material relates to Fahey’s early career or his activities outside the government.
Fahey had a lengthy career in federal service and the collection primarily covers Fahey's tenure as the chairman of Federal Home Loan Bank Board. This was instrumental to housing programs established in the latter years of the New Deal. These papers carry over into the Truman administration where Fahey would finish his career.
Much of the material concerning government agencies was unarranged when it was received by the Library. For that reason, separate files have been created for the Home Owners Loan Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, the Federal Home Loan Bank Administration, and for cases involving the Long Beach Federal Savings and Loan Association and the Los Angeles Home Loan Bank. The researchers should be aware, however, that these agencies are so inter-related that material concerning one may be found in the files of the others. In addition, particularly in the Long beach and Los Angeles cases, there are files for individuals involved. In such cases, the name of the institution has been noted in the finding aid next to the name of the individual. The two accessions were combined to form a single collection. For this reason, the researcher will find, in some instances, two sets of files on the same topic and for the same time period.
