Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection, housed in one folder, consists mainly of typescripts of eleven of Howard Hunter's speeches concerning the Works Progress Administration. Also included is a published transcript of a radio discussion, "Relief and the WPA," in which Hunter participated.

Collection Historical Note

Howard O. Hunter was Assistant Administrator of the Federal Relief Administration and the Works Progress Administration (WPA) from 1933 to 1939. From 1939 to 1941 he was Deputy Administrator of the WPA, and from 1941 to 1943 WPA Commissioner. From 1943 to 1945 he was Special Assistant to the Chairman of the War Production Board.
