Scope and Contents of the Materials
The collection is comprised of correspondence from Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, Sara Roosevelt, Edith Kermit Roosevelt, and Elihu Root. All but one of the letters are addressed to Mrs. John H. Livingston.
Collection Historical Note
John H. Livingston, a descendant of the first Chancellor of New York, Robert R. Livintson, and a distant cousin of Eleanor Roosevelt, was born in "Oakhill" Columbia County, New York on July 8, 1848. The graduated from Columbia College in 1869, and from Columbia College Law School in 1871. He died in may, 1916.
