Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Alfred B. Rollins collection contains personal papers of Louis McHenry Howe, including correspondence, diaries, notebooks, bills, receipts, checks, check stubs, and newspaper clippings given to Rollins by Howe's daughter, Mary Baker. Also included is some of Rollins' correspondence (most notably letters exchanged with Howe's children, Mary Howe Baker and Hartley Howe), notes and typescripts of letters. The materials all relate to research for the Roosevelt and Howe book.

Collection Historical Note

Alfred B. Rollins, Jr., an historian, was president of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, from 1976 to 1985. Rollins authored the book Roosevelt and Howe,  published in 1962.
