Abstract
The papers of Dr. Francis P. Corrigan, which include: General Correspondence; Family Correspondence; Subject Files; Speech and Article Files; Financial Files; and Printed Materials.
Scope and Contents of the Materials
Dr. Corrigan was an international ambassador for the American medical community long before he received his 1934 appointment from FDR to become Ambassador to El Salvador. This 34 box collection focuses on his diplomatic years and later career as an expert on South America during the formative years of the U.N. World Health Organization. Much of this may be observed in Series 3. As mentioned in the biographic note, Corrigan undertook two extended trips in the early 1920's under the auspices of the Amercan College of Surgeons which raised awareness of medical conditions in the Americas and brought him a greater degree of recognition. The Printed Material in Series 6 has several files on malaria. This collection is likely to appeal to scholars in Latin American Studies, International Relations and those interested in the history of medicine.
