This collections consists of an English translation of Rene de Chambrun's Memoirs and copies of materials related to his 1940 mission to the United States.
Collection Historical Note
A descendant of the Marquis de Lafayette, Rene de Chambrun was a lawyer at the Court of Appeals in Paris, France, and a member of the New York Bar Association. As Germany's invasion of France proceeded, de Chambrun served as a special emissary to the U.S. to ask Franklin Roosevelt for further aid for the allies. Rene de Chambrun died in 2002.
