FDR received Mr. Smith, Mr. Cornell and Mr. Nixon in his cabin and held a press conference. This conference lasted for an hour and was reported by Lt. Rigdon. FDR spent the afternoon on deck enjoying the sun. Air coverage was furnished by aircraft operating from the escort carrier USS Missionbay. While the party did not sight USS Missionbay, according the information in possession, it was operating to the northward of the USS Quincy's track.
