FDR's train arrived at Military Junction, Miami, FL. Baggage was unloaded onto Army trucks and dispatched to Pan American Airways base. The train remained at Military Junction until shortly after 0500. FDR and those who were to travel in plane #1 detrained at 0545 at 27th Ave and Dixie Highway. They left immediately by auto for Pan American Airways base. The 2 planes were to carry the party from Miami, FL to Trinidad, BWI. |

FDR and pilot Capt. Cone (Lt., USNR), left the dock and proceeded to the take-off area where the plane soared into the sky shortly after 6 AM enroute to Trinidad, BWI 1410 miles to the southeast. |

Plane #2 took off at 6:34 AM and was in the air 30 seconds later, Capt. Vinal (Lt., USNR) at the controls. Plane #2 followed about 35 mies to the rear of FDR's plane. Shortly after taking off, course was set at 135 degrees. The flight leveled off at 9,000 feet. |

FDR's plane landed in the waters of the newly constructed Naval Air Station, Trinidad, BWI. The weather on the way down from Miami, FL was generally most favorable, as only light scattered clouds and no air disturbance was encountered. Upon landing, FDR and his party left in launches for the dock at the Naval Operating Base, and upon disembarking, transferred to automobiles for a 15-minute drive to the Navy Hotel at Macqueripe. |

Over a cocktail, FDR chatted with Rear Adm. J. E. Oldendorf, USN, Commandant NOB Trinidad and Trinidad Sector, Caribbean Sea Frontier, and Maj. Gen. Henry C. Pratt, US Army Commanding General, Trinidad Base Command. Adm. William D. Leahy, Ross T. McIntire, Capt. John L. McCrea and Harry L. Hopkins were also guests of FDR. |

It was desired that plane #2 take off for Belem, Brazil at 0430 the next morning. FDR's plane was not scheduled to take off until 0600. For a number of days, Adm. William D. Leahy had a chest cold, and on the advice of Ross T. McIntire, FDR regretfully decided it would be best if he stayed behind. |
