Arrived in San Diego, CA. Here the train was delivered to the Atchison, Topeka and Sata Fe Railroad .

The train was parked on a siding at the nearby Marine Corps Base, on the same location which FDR's train occupied when he last visited San Diego, CA - during his inspection tour in the fall of 1942. The train remained parked here until after FDR's departure from San Diego, CA in the USS Baltimore.

Note: The transcontinental trip was leisurely to afford FDR time to rest and work on a speech he planned to give in San Diego, CA. The trip took 3422 miles and allowed observation of the power and might of the USA..

Maj. Gen. E. M. Kingman, USMC, Commanding General, Marine Corps Base, San Diego, CA; Maj. Gen. Price, Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force and Commanding General, Camp Pendleton, Rear Adm. W. L. Friedell, USN, Commandant, Eleventh Naval District; and Rear Adm. R. O. Davis, USN, Commander Training Command, Amphibious Force, Pacific Fleet, called on FDR in his private car.

ER, accompanied by Col. James Roosevelt, USMCR, visited with the thousands of patients at the San Diego Naval Hospital. Many of these patients were men just back from the fighting in the Marshall and Marianas Islands.

FDR, ER, Col. and Mrs. James Roosevelt and Miss Malvina Thompson dep. the Base by motor for Coronado, CA where they lunched with Mrs. John Roosevelt at her home.

The party moved on to Adm. Davis' residence, at 1517 Ynez Place, Coranado, CA, where Col. and Mrs. James Roosevelt were hosts at a family dinner. Adm. Davis had made his home available to Col. Roosevelt for the occasion. After dinner ER and Miss Malvina Thompson bade the others goodbye and dep. San Diego, CA to entrain for Los Angeles, CA and the East. FDR returned to his private car at the Marine Corps Base.
