Porter (DD579), as Task Group 27.5 with Capt. John L. McCrea as Task Group Commander, departed Hampton Roads, VA for Oran, Algeria. The USS Iowa was piloted out of the Hampton Roads area by Lt. Comdr. L. T. Stallings, US Coast Guard Reserve. |
