On July 9, 1933, President Roosevelt ordered the Cotton Textile Code which abolished child labor and established a 40-hour work week, adopted as of July 17. Minimum weekly wages were fixed at $12 in the South and $13 in the North. This was the first code to come up for review by the National Recovery Administration under the National Recovery Act.
