Educational Programs
Our new
"Educational Menu" offers programs for elementary, middle and
high school students as well as college level and adult learners. Each
selection in the menu is specifically designed to meet the educational
needs of the students and the curriculum concerns of the teacher. The
modules focus on developing analytical and critical thinking skills while
imparting information and understanding about the life and times of
Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. In addition to participating in one of our
Educational Modules, your visit could include the following activities: a
visit to the President's Home*, a tour of the Presidential Library and
Museum, viewing a short film or video. We request that all school groups
make a reservation prior to their arrival. Please call our Education office

History Hunt
|
Students search the Museum to answer
important questions about the achievements of Franklin and Eleanor
Roosevelt. With three versions designed for students in grades 3-5, 6-8,
and 9-12, the History Hunt is a great way for groups with time constraints
to make the most of their visit to the Library and Museum.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Fala's Famous Friend
|
Students are introduced to Franklin
Roosevelt by his faithful canine companion, Fala. Through the reading of
FDR's Life Storybook and an activity packet, Fala highlights the major
challenges and accomplishments in the life of his famous friend, President
Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Rendezvous with History
Pretend You Are the President
|
Through interactive scenarios students
come face to face with first person interpreters who portray such historic
figures as "Rosie the Riveter," FDR's architect, and others.
Students learn by actively engaging the issues in a simulated historic
context.
Working with documents and artifacts, students learn about the
Presidency, and what a demanding job it can be, as they role-play some of
the many tasks the Chief Executive is called upon to perform.

Students learn to consider document-based
questions and explore the accomplishments of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt

Students participate in the selection and
examination of specific issues and topics relating to the Roosevelt Era.
Students experience hands-on, primary source research by investigating and
evaluating traditional "hot button" topics. By working in small
groups students will learn to formulate, challenge and defend conclusions
drawn from their review of historic primary source documents and
photographs.

Teachers can sharpen their skills by
attending one of our half day, full day, or week-long workshops and
seminars. In-service credit may be arranged. Customized programs, tours,
and lectures can be provided on a wide variety of topics and subjects.
