Henry A. Wallace Visitor
and Education Center
The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum broke ground for the new Henry A. Wallace Visitor, Education, and Conference Center on May 19, 2002. Our grand dedication has been scheduled for November 15, 2003! Details June 2003
May 2003 The roof decking is going on, most of the interior partitions have been put up and the majority of the mechanical systems have been installed in the basement. We are finalizing plans for the wonderful elements in the lobby of the new building. A mosaic map of Hyde Park will be on the floor in the center of the lobby and large graphic images of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and Henry Wallace will be on the walls. One of the things we are most excited about is a bronze scupture Studio EIS is doing for us. The sculpture depicts Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt sitting on adirondack furniture and will be on display in the courtyard of the Wallace Center. There is even room on the bench next to FDR for visitors to sit down and have their photo taken with the President. Studio EIS is a world renowned company specializing in lifelike bronze sculptures.
January 2003 Despite enormous amounts of snow and cold weather, the project continues to move forward.
December 2002 The new building is starting to take shape. The steel is going up. The concrete slabs in both the east and west wings have been poured and they are erecting steel in the west wing. The new entrance road and parking lot have been cleared.
September 2002 Progress on the walls continues.
August 2002 Construction has progressed to the point where forms for the walls are going up.
June 2002 U.W. Marks trailers arrive on site.
