Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Edward J Flynn Papers is a 28 box collection. It consists of incoming and outgoing personal, business, and political correspondence; clippings; memorabilia; photographs; material relating to Flynn’s book, You’re the Boss; and condolence correspondence.
The bulk of the material is from 1931-1952. Pursuant to the biographical note, Flynn's papers have a limited connection to the Roosevelt administration despite his impressive political career. Nevertheless, the correspondence is rich with letters to FDR and associates including James Farley, Henry Morgenthau, Frances Perkins, Samuel Rosenman and Harry Truman. There is little material from his trip to Yalta.
For aficionados of New York history and popular culture, there are two boxes devoted to the 1939 World's Fair featuring papers and memoribilia from his stint as World's Fair Commissioner.
