Original caption reads: "The Tennessee Valley Region--The watershed of the Tennessee River and its tributaries, scene of the TVA's program for the unified development of the Tennessee River system, covers an area of more than 40,000 square miles, approximately 2,250,000 people. Seven dams are now completed or under construction to aid in control of floods, to create a channel for nine-foot navigation and to obtain the maximum generation of electric power as a by-product."
