Original caption reads: "Into the Jaws of Death. D-Day (June 6) sends Yankee soldiers plunging down the ramp of a Coast Guard-manned landing barge and wading throughthe surf into the hell-fire of Nazi guns on the beach of Normandy. Troops, up front, hug the sand under a deadly curtain of German machinegun resistance. This striking Invasion picture was made as the Allies established their historic beachhead on the Liberation coast of France." Archivist note: These American troops from V Corps leave a Higgins boat for Omaha Beach.
