Description:
Original caption reads: "One of the redoubtable "Fliying Tigers" ready to take off from an Alaskan point in a Curtiss P-40 (Warhawk) fighter plane.  The group to which he belongs is commanded by Major John Chennailt, son of the famous general.  Planes of the series to which this belongs have seen action in almost every known theatre in this war.  With the AVG [American Volunteer Group] in China, with the RAF in England and Africa and with the AAF in the South Pacific, they have performed notably as middle altitude fighters.  In some theatres they have been rigged to carry bombs under the wings and fuselage for use against ground troops and enemy bases."
