Description:
Original caption reads: "Rebirth of a French Town. A French family trundles their possessions on a cart as they return to Laval after American forces liberated the French town from the Nazis August 6, 1944. The people poured into the village on foot, on cycles with carts and wagons, returning to their homes from the nearby countryside where they had taken refuge. More than two-thirds of the town's normal population of 30,000 evacuated the town in July, when the Allies started bombing Nazi installations in Laval."
