Description:
Original caption reads: "'Kamerad!' The fear of men who once proudly called themselves supermen is plainly written on the faces of these German soldeiers as they move on the run along a road near St. Lo in front of an American tank. One prisoner holds a white flag, while both he and his companion frantically keep ahead of the iron monster. They were among the prisoners who succumbed to concentrated American artillery and small arms fire." Archivist note: This is an M4A4 Sherman medium tank fitted with either a T3 or T4 mine exploder flail. The tank is facing away from the soldiers, and the mine flails show the tank has been moving down the road towards the structure, rather than following the Germans as the caption suggests.
