Description:
Original caption reads: "Once there was a church. Priests of the town of Coutances, France, clamber over the rubble of their town on the site of what was once a church. Terrific shelling by both American and German artillery when the town was changing hands reduced the structures to debris. The piles of rubble show the extent of the all-out battle which resulted in liberation of the area as the Americans pushed the Germans out of the town."
