Original caption reads: "A Japanese fighting plane shot down during the attack on Dutch Harbor, Alaska in early June, before shipment to the United States. The plane was damaged by anti-aircraft fire and pancaked on a marsh some miles away. It was spotted from the air by a Navy patrol plane." Archivist note: This is an Imperial Japanese Navy Type 0 Model 21 Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" fighter. It was piloted by 19-year-old Flight Petty Officer First Class Tadayoshi Koga from the carrier Ryujo, who crashed on Akutan Island, Alaska Territory on June 4, 1942.
