Description:
Caption on back reads: Belgian Martyrs await identification for bruial. The bodies of Belgian men, women, and children, killed by the Nazis, await indentification before burial. As the Germans launched a counter-offensive December 16, 1944, into Luxemburg and Belgium, their vengance was wreaked upon innocent Belgium civilians. Hundreds were killed without reason or trial before American forces could fight through to their rescue. The German salient was met with fierce resistance on all flanks by the Americans, whose defensive tactics were changed quickly to an offensive operation. By December 31, the Nazis had lost more than 15,000 prisoners to U.S. forces in two weeks of their campaign."
