Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection is composed of correspondence with Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt as well as miscellaneous individuals. There are documents pertaining to the Poughkeepsie Citizens Committee for the Re-election of President Roosevelt which include copies of the committee's political statement.
Collection Historical Note
C, Mildred Thompson was prominent historian, educator, and feminist, and a close friend of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Thompson was the Dean of Vassar College from 1923-1948. During the 1940s Thompson frequently spoke on the radio. After retiring from this position, Thompson was a history professor at University of Georgia and curriculum consultant. Additionally, during the early 1950s she served as dean of women at the College of Free Europe in Strasbourg, France. She played a role in international affairs by drafting a charter for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, known as UNESCO.
