Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collections consists of correspondence, interviews, clippings, and other materials related to the research and writing of Irwin F. Gellman's book Secret Affairs: FDR, Cordell Hull and Sumner Welles (2003).

Collection Historical Note

Irwin F. Gellman is an historian of twentieth century U.S. politics and diplomacy. In addition to Secret Affairs: FDR, Cordell Hull and Sumner Welles (2003), he has published the books Good Neighbor Diplomacy: United States Policies in Latin America, 1933-1945 (1979) and The Contender: Richard Nixon: The Congress Years, 1946 to 1952 (1999). He donated his papers to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library in memory of his wife, Barbara L. Gellman, who died in 1989.

Accruals: After the initial accession in March 1992 (manuscript of Secret Affairs: FDR, Cordell Hull, and Sumner Welles and research files), the following materials were added: copies of documents from Drew Pearson Papers, 1933-1950 (June 7, 1993), correspondence, photocopies, and research notes (February 6, 2008).
