Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of materials documenting the military service of Don V. Paradis during World War I. These materials include a bound volume containing photographs and Don Paradis's oral history transcript (1973). There is also a copy of Leatherneck magazine (November 1974) which includes an article about Paradis' trip back to Belleau Wood, France where he fought in 1918. Also included is Paradis' photo album entitled "My Trip to France and Belleau Woods May 30 1975."
Collection Historical Note
Don V. Paradis was a Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War I and served in France with the American Expiditionary Force. He survied the campaign at Belleau Wood, France "without getting a scratch." For his heroism, he received two Silver star Medals and the French Croix de Guerre. In 1975 he was invited to accompany Commandant Robert E. Cushman, Jr back to Belleau Wood, France.
