Extent: 163.29 Cubic Feet
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection contains a wide variety of scrapbooks originally collected, created, or arranged by Franklin D. Roosevelt, his office staff and family, or by the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. The scrapbooks most often comprise newspaper and magazine clippings, printed ephemera, artwork, and notations that document the public lives and careers of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Others relate to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s historical collecting interests such as antique Naval and European history. Many books were created by Franklin D. Roosevelt's office staff or a clipping service during his tenure as New York State Senator, as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and as Governor of New York State. After Franklin D. Roosevelt’s death the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library continued to collect scrapbooks crafted privately by the general public to honor and remember his Presidency. These scrapbooks are bound in a wide range of formats that reflect deep variety in design styles, available materials, and purposes for crafting that were contemporary to their creation.
