Collection Historical Note
Fred H. Colvin was a special correspondent for and editor of the magazine American Machinist. He also served as a Special Advisor to Secretary of War Newton D. Baker from 1914 to 1918. During this period he worked on increasing production of arms, airplanes, and naval armaments. While doing so he had some contact with Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was then serving as Assistant Secretary of the Navy.
