Collection Historical Note
Louis B. Wehle was a member of the legal committee of the General Munitions Board, and of the legal committee of the Council of National Defense (May-August, 1917), Counsel of the U.S. Shipping. Board Emergency Fleet Corporation (August, 1917-March, 1919), and Counsel for the War Finance Corporation (March 1919 - November, 1920).
In 1936, he was appointed a member of the President's White House Conference on Power Pooling, and in 1937, was a member of the American Commission at the International Congress of Comparative Law at the Hague.
In 1944 and 1945, he served as American Ambassador to The Netherlands.
