The Triborough Bridge (now the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge) opened on July 11, 1936. President Roosevelt led the first cavalcade over the bridge. Robert Moses was the force behind the completion of the bridge. The original caption reads: “Like a modern Flying Carpet, the Tri-Borough Bridge swings across the Sky with ‘Baghdad on the Subway’ in the background.” New York, New York. From the records of the Public Works Administration.
