On July 30, 1942, Harry Hopkins, a personal aide to the President, married Mrs. Louise Gill Macy, a newspaper woman. Here, FDR sits next to Macy, who is standing to his right, next to Hopkins in the White House Oval Office after their wedding ceremony. This was the first marriage in the White House in 24 years. The last one being between Woodrow Wilson’s daughter, Alice, to Isaac Stuart McElroy, Jr. in 1918.
