Escorted by FDR's Chief of Staff, Adm. William D. Leahy, King Farouk and his party arrived on board. The King and his party had been flown from Cairo, Egypt to Deversoir, Egypt in an Army Air Force aircraft and had been met at the Suez Company boat landing by Adm. William D. Leahy. FDR was on deck to receive the King and his party. FDR and the King settled down to conversations shortly after the King's arrival on board.

FDR was host to King Farouk at luncheon in his quarters aboard ship. Other guests were Min. Tuck, Harry L. Hopkins, Mr. Pasha, Adm. William D. Leahy, Gen. Giles and Mrs. John Boettiger. The conversations continued after lunch. FDR pointed out the purchase by the US of large quantities of long-staple Egyptian cotton during the war, and stressed the hope of increased trade in other commodities with Egypt in the future. The importance of 2-way future trade was also stressed.

Escorted by Adm. William D. Leahy, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and his party arrived on board from Addis Ababa, Ehiopia. After greetings, FDR and Emperor Haile Selassie sat down to conversations. FDR stressed communications between the US and Ethiopia and told him he hoped that with communications improvements, the 2 countries would come to know each other better. FDR thanked the Emperor in person for the gift of the site and buildings he had given the US to use as a Legation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopiaa.
