Samuel I. Rosenman, newspaper correspondents Merriman Smith, Douglas Cornell, and Robert Nixon came aboard and joined FDR's party for the return trip to the US. On the dock awaiting the party were also Mr. Reilly, Mr. Rowley, Maj. Greer, Mr. Holmes, Mr. Campion, Mr. Peterson, and Mr. O'Driscoll of the advanced party. They left the ship later in the day to continue to Washington, DC by air.

The US Amb's. Jefferson Caffery (to France) and Alexander C. Kirk (to Italy) came on board and conferred with FDR. Gen. DeGaulle (Provisional President of France) declined the invitation to confer with FDR. Log notes his various explanations, and cites quotations referring to DeGualle's stubborness.

FDR was host at lunch to Mr. Caffery, Mr. Kirk, Stephen T. Early, Harry L. Hopkins, Mrs. John Boettiger, and Adm. William D. Leahy, Ross T. McIntire, and Adm. Wilson Brown.

Amb's. Caffery and Kirk, Harry L. Hopkins, Sgt Hopkins, Stephen T. Early, and Charles E. Bohlen left the ship. Harry L. Hopkins and Charles E. Bohlen planned to go to Marrakech, Morocco for a few days before returning to the US by air. Amb's Caffery and Kirk were to return to their regular posts. Stephen T. Early was to proceed to the headquarters, Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force, in France, for a period of temporary duty, and Sgt Hopkins was to rejoin his outfit somewhere on the Western Front.
