The destroyers USS Carmick, Doyle and Endicott rendezvoused with the task group and reported for duty. On their joining up, the USS Murphy, Frankford and Baldwin were released and were directed to proceed to the Navy Yard, New York, for assigned availability.

The task group sighted the USS Chemung (tanker) and USS McCormick (destroyer), bearing 341, changed speed to 21.5 knots.

Course and position noted. Distance since noon: 465 miles. Distance since Algiers, Tunisia: 1830 miles. Task group changed speed to 22 knots. FDR spent more than an hour on deck enjoying the sun. Air coverage was furnished throughout the day by by aircraft from American bases in the Azores.

FDR, members of his Mess and Commr. Duffill watched "Enter Arsene Lupin." FDR dispatched a message to King Ibn Saud informing him that the destroyer USS Murphy rejoined the naval group on 2/19 and that the Navy considered it a great honor to have transported the King. FDR also stated his hope that "[the] meeting may be only the forerunner of ever-increasing friendship and understanding" between FDR and King Ibn Saud and the US and Saudi Arabian peoples.
