The remains of Gen. Edwin M. Watson were transferred from the ship to the train. Honors were given by the Marine Guard and Sideboys. The members of FDR's party, serving as honorary pallbearers, and six officers from the USS Quincy as pallbearers, accompanied the remains during the transfer. After the transfer was completed, FDR phoned Washington, DC and spent 30 min talking with people. He used the direct wire that had been installed in the train for his use. |
